Xiaomi 13T Review: The Collaboration With LEICA Arrives

The new Xiaomi T series smartphone further raises the bar, confirming itself as an excellent product for the quality/price ratio. Xiaomi 13T is the new smartphone from Xiaomi’s “T” series, which has always aimed to provide high-level performance but at a more competitive price than the company’s top-of-the-range series.

This year, we found models like the Xiaomi 13 and the Xiaomi 13 Pro. The new Xiaomi smartphone presents itself as an ideal choice for many users, as it manages to offer an excellent display, high-level performance, and an excellent photographic sector at a decidedly more accessible price. Let’s discover together the strengths and weaknesses of this new Xiaomi 13T.

Xiaomi 13T: Elegant And Well-Finished Design

The new Xiaomi 13T features an elegant and well-finished design, demonstrating the extreme attention to detail that the Chinese company has placed in the construction of this device. The smartphone is equipped with a flat side frame made of aluminum, while the finish of the back changes based on the color chosen.

The black and green colors have a glass finish, which, however, has the flaw of retaining fingerprints a little too much, especially in the black version. This changes entirely with the Alpine Blue color, which instead adopts a Xiaomi BioComfort vegan leather finish, which is much more pleasant to the touch and completely removes the problem of fingerprints. Overall, we are faced with a well-built smartphone, but we recommend using a cover, especially in the versions with a glass back, which have less “grip” in the hand.

Xiaomi 13T: Extremely Bright Display And Balanced Hardware

The 6.67-inch AMOLED display on this Xiaomi 13T is genuinely of the highest level and is a clear step forward compared to the one adopted in the previous generation. The resolution of the panel is 2,712 x 1,220 pixels, with support for the DCI-P3 color gamut and a maximum peak brightness of 2,600 nits, which makes it extremely visible even outdoors. For quick comparison, the display of an iPhone 15 Pro Max “only” reaches 2,000 nits.

However, when the smartphone is used at night, it can significantly reduce eye strain thanks to a PWM that reaches up to 2,880 Hz. The display refresh rate goes up to 144 Hz, and, with automatic mode active, the smartphone can vary between 30/60/90/120/144 Hz, depending on how you use the device.

The entire system is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultra chip, made with a 4-nanometer production process, supported by 8 gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of internal memory in UFS 3.1 technology, which, although not the latest generation available, is nevertheless a swift type of memory. The chip chosen by Xiaomi can offer excellent performance in every context, but above all, it heats up very little (except after long gaming sessions).

This factor reflects positively on the device’s autonomy, which allows you to get to the end of the day with a good percentage of residual autonomy, also thanks to a 5,000 mAh battery. Furthermore, when you need an additional charge to go out to dinner with friends, there is support for 67-watt fast charging via the power supply included in the package, which allows you to recharge it in just over 40 minutes fully.

The software is, from our point of view, the “worst” part of this smartphone, given the presence of MIUI 14 based on Android 13. Let’s be clear: there are no bugs, and the whole system runs very well, but from our point of view, this software needs a good update, especially on a graphic level.

Xiaomi 13T: A Complete Camera To Satisfy Every Need

For the first time, Xiaomi has decided to bring the collaboration with LEICA to the “T” series; in fact, the smartphone is equipped with LEICA Summicron lenses, as well as software optimization developed in synergy between the two companies. The smartphone has a 50-megapixel primary rear sensor equipped with OIS, which can return excellent-quality shots in all light conditions.

However, at night, the general quality decreases slightly despite using the night mode. The 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera is also perfect, providing excellent shots, especially during the day, while the 50-megapixel telephoto sensor is genuinely excellent and allows you to obtain shots with a natural blurred effect of excellent quality. Thanks to LEICA’s software optimization, you can choose between two customized photo styles, namely Leica Authentic Look and Leica Vibrant Look.

The 20-megapixel front camera is good, which allows you to record videos in Full HD at 60 fps and is slightly higher than that of the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro. Without problems, it is one of the best smartphones in terms of photography, on par with that offered by Google on the Pixel 7 series smartphones, which are now found around this price range.

Xiaomi 13T: Why Buy It?

As we said previously, at the price at which it is offered in the list, i.e., 699 euros, it is not quickly advisable. Still, things change considerably if we evaluate the fact that the smartphone has practically always been offered at 599 euros and also with a free Redmi Pad SE tablet (promotion still active). At this price, it is an exciting smartphone, thanks to the genuinely balanced and complete hardware in every department. It is one of the best smartphones in the medium-high range of the market.
